Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, major event in Tucson. Contrary to its name, the holiday is not somber but rather a joyous celebration of life and death.

The origins of Día de los Muertos date back over 3,000 years to the rituals of the Aztecs and other Nahua people. They believed that death was a natural part of the cycle of life.

The celebrations include colorful decorations and papel picado (cut paper banners).

The neighborhood presents lush, green landscapes lining the wide, curving streets.

It is also famous for its annual Festival of Lights.

This annual Christmas time event dates back to 1949. It has become a beloved tradition in Tucson.
