Titan II Missile Museum

titan II missile museum near Tucson AZThe Titan II Missile Museum, located south of Tucson in Green Valley, Arizona. It is a fascinating Cold War time capsule.

A bit of history now. The Cold War took place between 1947 and 1991 between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. It was a nuclear stalemate between the two “super-states”. Both possessed weapons of mass destruction and was capable of annihilating the other

During the 1060’s, the U.S. built 54 missile sites in 3 States. Eighteen missile sites in each State – Kansas, Arkansas and Arizona.

Here’s what makes it a must-visit:

> The museum is in missile site 571-7, one of 54 that were on alert from 1963 to 1987. Its location was set during the SALT talks in the early 1980’s.
> You will see the 103-foot Titan II intercontinental ballistic missile in its silo. Decommissioned of course!
> A Guided 45-minute tours take you through the launch control center and silo.
