Prescott Arizona was the capital of the Arizona Territory until November 1867. At that time the capital was moved to Tucson Arizona. In 1877, the capital was moved back to Prescott Arizona and finally moved to Phoenix Arizona in February 1889.
Prescott Arizona is also steeped in western lore. Virgil Earp, Wyatt Earp’s brother, lived in Prescott in 1879. After learning of the boom in Tombstone, Virgil moved to Tombstone AZ and participated in the famous gun fight a the OK Corral.
Doc Holiday is also believed to have lived in Prescott Arizona before joining the Earp’s in Tombstone.
The Prescott Arizona metropolitan area is the third largest in Arizona behind Phoenix and Tucson. In 2022, population of Prescott AZ is just over 47,000.
