Metro Water District is officially the Metropolitan Domestic Water Improvement District. This Tucson water district is a municipal water provider. It serves areas outside the City of Tucson.
Metro Water provides water to Tucson’s northwest, northeast and southwest areas. Ninety-five percent of Metro Water’s customers are single-family residents. The District’s service area includes over 50,000 people.
Metro Water District was established in 1992. The Water District is the largest domestic water district in Arizona.
There isn’t a water shortage of Tucson water. Tucson sits on top of a gigantic aquifer that experts say will last for many years. However, water conservation is important. Especially when you live in the desert.
Tucson Metro Water has a proactive conservation awareness program. The program includes continual education about water conservation. Information is made available through a Tucson Metro Water District newsletter.
The Metro Water District program includes a toilet rebate program and a graywater/water harvesting. Both strive to promote lower water consumption.
The Metro Water District is just one of several Tucson Water providers. Northwest Tucson home owners may actually get water from either Tucson Water, Metro Water District or Oro Valley Water. Be sure to ask your Tucson Real Estate agent which one will serve your home.
The MWD handles account transfers very easily. You won’t need to be at the property to put the service in your name. Just call the Metro Water District offices and tell them the date to make the switch.
Give the MWD 7 to 10 days to process the switch over.
