What Home Buyers Want was studied by the NAR. NAR is the National Association of Realtors. A recent NAR survey was conducted of 2,000 households. Those surveyed had purchased a home between 2010-2012.
The Home Buyer wants survey identified 33 features and 12 rooms. Although done in 2007 the results on what home buyers want is still true.
Noteworthy results were on home buyer wants, include:
MOST IMPORTANT – HOME BUYERS WANT
Central air conditioning.
Eat-In kitchen.
New kitchen appliances.
Buyers 55 and older want a single-story home.
Room with highest dollar value that buyers are willing to pay for is a in-law suite.
STATISTICS
97% of home buyers were satisfied with recent home purchase.
78% chose a home with a garage.
57% purchased a home with a fireplace.
53% did a home improvement within 3 months of purchase. Typically spent $4,550- on project.
47% of buyers thought a laundry room was very important (89% who thought it was somewhat important did purchase a home with a laundry room).
69% of buyers who did not buy a home with new appliances are typically willing to spend $1,840- more.
41% of home improvements were adding/replacing lights.
What Some Want – Others Don’t
Granite counter tops were very important to 20%.
Stainless steel appliances were very important to 17%.
Single men want a home less than 5 years old with 9 foot (or greater) or cathedral ceilings. New home buyers like skylights.
Buyers under 35 don’t care how many levels/stories are in a home.
Most common improvement after home purchased was the kitchen.
Buyers wanted more or large closets and storage.
